Privacy Policy

Chitzy ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Chitzy mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.

By using Chitzy, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

Phone number (used for OTP verification via Firebase — never stored on our servers)
Google account info (email, name) — if you sign in with Google
Apple ID info (email, name) — if you sign in with Apple
Display name (chitzy_name), real name (optional)
Age, gender, country, state, city, work type, workplace (optional profile fields)

Usage Data

Messages sent and received (stored anonymously)
Streak activity and daily message counts
Profile visits (count only, not individual visitors)
In-app notification preferences
Content moderation strikes and send-block status (to enforce safety policy)
Streak count, streak freezes, and last active date (to power the streak system)

Device Information

Expo push notification token (to deliver notifications)
Device type (iOS / Android) for notification delivery
Anonymous device identifier (a randomly generated UUID stored on your device) used solely for safety enforcement — e.g. to prevent re-registration after a permanent suspension

Reports & Moderation Data

If you submit a report: the reported message, your user ID, and the reason you selected are stored for moderation review
If a report is filed against you: the reported message text and the action taken (if any) are stored in our moderation logs
Reports are visible only to Chitzy's moderation team and are never shared publicly

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your Chitzy account
To deliver anonymous messages between users
To send push notifications (new messages, reactions, streak reminders)
To maintain your streak and activity stats
To improve app performance and fix bugs
To process payments for Chitzy Pro (via Razorpay)

3. Anonymity

Chitzy is built around anonymous messaging. Sender identities are never revealed to recipients unless the recipient uses a hint (by watching an ad or with a Pro subscription). Even then, only a partial city-level hint is shown for Pro users. We never expose the sender's phone number or real name.

4. Content Moderation

Chitzy is committed to keeping the platform safe and respectful. Every custom message sent through the app passes through a multi-layer automated moderation system before delivery:

Keyword filter — An instant blocklist screens messages for known offensive words and slurs across 30+ languages including all major Indian languages.
AI content review — Messages are analysed by an AI model to detect hate speech, racism, colorism, body shaming, indirect insults, sarcastic put-downs, harassment, threats, and sexual content — including indirect or coded language common in Indian usage.
Strike system — Sending content that violates our guidelines results in a warning strike. Free users are blocked from sending for 24 hours after 5 violations; Pro users after 10. Strikes reset daily at midnight.
User reports — Any message can be reported by the recipient using the in-app report button. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. Users reported by multiple people may be automatically or manually suspended.
Admin moderation — Our team can issue temporary blocks (3, 7, or 30 days) or permanent account suspensions for serious or repeated violations. Permanently suspended accounts have their phone number and device ID blocked to prevent re-registration.

Message text is sent to an AI API solely for moderation purposes. The AI provider does not store or train on this data.

5. Third-Party Services

Firebase (Google) — Phone number OTP authentication. Privacy Policy
Google Sign-In — Optional sign-in method. We receive your Google email and name to create your account. Privacy Policy
Apple Sign-In — Optional sign-in method. We receive only the information Apple shares (email may be relayed). Privacy Policy
Supabase — Database and backend. Data stored on servers in the United States. Privacy Policy
Expo — Push notification delivery. Privacy Policy
OpenAI — Automated content moderation only. Message text is processed in real time and not retained. Privacy Policy
Google AdMob — In-app advertising (free users). May collect device identifiers and usage data for ad personalisation. Privacy Policy
Razorpay — Payment processing for Chitzy Pro. We do not store card or UPI details. Privacy Policy

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your messages, profile data, and activity history are permanently deleted within 30 days.

7. Children's Privacy

Chitzy is intended for users aged 18 and above. It is rated 18+ on the Apple App Store and Mature 18+ on Google Play. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, please contact us at support@chitzy.in and we will delete it promptly.

8. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), row-level security on our database, and authenticated API access. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

9. Your Rights

Access — Request a copy of your personal data
Correction — Update your profile information anytime in the app
Deletion — Request account deletion by emailing us
Opt-out — Disable notifications anytime in Profile → Settings

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app. Continued use of Chitzy after changes means you accept the updated policy.
